Today is my first full day back at home in London Ontario Canada!
When I originally set out to gather guest posts, I asked a number of inspirational Ladies thinking that if a few declined, a would still be all set for the duration of my trip. Well, no one declined
, so I have a few extra posts. This actually works out really well for two reasons: one, you get to see more lovely manicures, and two, I get to take my time transitioning back into my family and home
I am ELATED to introduce today’s guest poster to you! She is fairly new to the blogging scene, and if you haven’t checked out her blog YOU MUST! Now for a riddle!
What do you get when you combine a lovely and intelligent Lady, stunning slender long nail swatches, a handsome hamster (well, I’m assuming he is handsome for I have yet to meet him
), lovely photos, and a passion for everything beauty and nail? You get Carmela’s blog: Polished Indulgence. Why do I like Carmela’s blog so much? Well, let me list the reasons (no I’d better not because we would be here till next week), I will however say that I always learn something new while reading Carmela’s posts! Her blog is both visually mesmerizing and intellectually tantalizing! Take Carmela’s Chinese New Year post for example… but do come back because today’s post is written by a Hamster!!!! Don’t believe me? Read on!

Hello there lovely Marta loyalists! Hammie the lovable hamster checking in. Before we get into the nitty gritty of things, let’s address a couple of things first, shall we?
First off, I know what you’re thinking. “A hamster is doing a guest post on Chit Chat Nails? What has this world come to?” No, you silly girl, this is no omen of the (alleged) impending doom happening on December 23, 2012 . I am, in fact, a colleague of Carmela over at Polished Indulgence. Together, we make sure that things are kept tidy and working smoothly over at our little piece of the interwebs. You see, I’ve been delegated to venture forth and perform neighbourly duties when the ever-so-generous-with-the-
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I’m sure you’re excited to see what I have up my sleeve for you today. (Yes, hamsters can wear shirts, too, and that’s how I have sleeves.) Carmela was nice enough to allow me to use her nails as my canvas so rest assured you won’t find my painted digits in the next few photos. While planning our design for this post, we easily decided that we’d try the sponging technique that Marta has long encouraged us to use. We felt it would be justly appropriate. But we also wanted to do something different. We looked at various sponging nail art designs and quickly realized that sponging alone won’t give us the uniqueness we were after. Enter the HPS: Hamstar. When I first heard of this hamster powered submarine, I thought it was complete rubbish. Why would any hamster want a submarine to begin with? And then it dawned on me. Why not get some sightseeing done while doing a spot of exercise? Surely it would very much be like the hamster equivalent of cycling, except underwater!

I immediately requested one be custom-made for me. (Yes, it was purple. However did you guess that?) I took it for a few test runs around the tub (I would have preferred a pool or a pond but seeing as it’s freezing in these parts, a tub was my only viable option.) before embarking on my maiden voyage. Oh, the joy of being in the open seas! It was this particular ocean adventure that I drew inspiration from to create the design we came up with:

Base: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Calypso Blue layered with Quo by Orly Celestial Star
Sponging: Orly Sweet Peacock and Color Club Cold Metal
Water decal: Hello Kitty mermaid from Born Pretty Store
Glitter top coat: Revlon Blue Mosaic

I wanted to recreate the subtle variations of blue that I saw under the ocean. At the very top where the sunlight hits the water, it starts out as a shimmery turquoise. That, in turn, melds into a bright blue that then transitions into a much cooler dark blue. The glitter top coat mimics the air bubbles, while adding another dimension of shine to an already shimmery design.

I wanted to be a thoughtful friend and so I picked up this pretty pearl adorned headband for Carmela. If I’m not mistaken, mermaids handcraft these trinkets themselves to adorn their beautiful long hair. I haven’t personally met a lot of them, but there was this red crab fellow, along with a fat yellow and blue fish, who was manning a stand that had all sorts of trinkets. I might have even spotted a fork among them, now that I think about it. At any rate, I picked this from their spread.

Now, I’m not at all certain if there really is a Hello Kitty mermaid. For sure, I saw the other kind. You know, like that lady who was in that most recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie? But as for the feline sort, why I don’t think they exist at all. Wouldn’t that be such an oxymoron? Kitties as a general rule adore fish to snack on. If a Hello Kitty mermaid existed, wouldn’t that be cannibalism if she still ate fish? The horror! Besides, I’m a hamster, in case you’re forgetting. And cats and hamsters don’t always co-exist with good outcome. Just as well that I never encountered a kitty mermaid!

There you have it, our spin on ocean/mermaid nails! I sure hope you enjoyed this post. To be honest, this is the first post I’ve written by myself and I’m more than a little nervous about its reception. I do have to admit, this sure was fun! Now, I speak for both Carmela and I when I say: THANK YOU to the ever so lovely Marta for this wonderful opportunity. We’re certain her adventures in Poland will easily rival those I’ve had with my trusty submarine. Are you as excited as us to hear about them when she comes back?
