Blue Sandwich

Happy Monday Lovely Ladies!!!

I hope you are starting off the week on a good note, because I sure am!!!

Despite the fact that I worked the morning shift this weekend I also had a lot of time to relax with family. Yesterday Peter whisked us all away to the beach! He wanted to do something special for me for Mother’s Day and so he made a delicious meal on the BBQ, packed it all up nicely, loaded our three kids into the car, and drove to a nearby beach. Though it was still a little too cold to go swimming, we relaxed as a family, enjoyed the fresh air, the sound of the water and the soft beach sand… This truly was one of my best Mothers Days to date!

Though I’m still grinning from ear to ear from yesterday’s mini-getaway, I will most certainly be partaking in the Monday Blues! ;) The Monday Nail Blues that is ;)

I used a few shades to create this look, and I guess you could say that this is my very first “sandwich” experiment; I’m new at layering shades over-top of one another ;)

I started out with essence Midnight Date which was sent to me by Bregje !!! Bregje recently sent me an awesome package packed full of Catrice shades, and this little essence treasure was amongst all the pretties!!! Midnight Date is a gorgeous deep shimmery one coat blue. I regret not taking step by step photos (I was in such a hurry to ‘sample’ my finished layering sandwich that I forgot to relish in the little steps). However, sweet Bregje did take some lovely photos on her blog, and I encourage you to check out her blog, show your support, and admire her swatches of this dual polish HERE.

I then used one coat of OPI Servin Up Sparkle followed by two thin coats of the flakie portion of this dual essence nail polish called City That Never Sleeps. The OPI glitter was still quite ‘dominant’ in this manicure and I decided to try one more layer of polish to tone it down a little. I used the much-raved about (for great reason!!!!) Max Factor Fantasy Fire which Joanne sent me in a swap package ;) One coat of Seche Vite completes this look.

So there you have it.. my very first glitter layering experiment/glitter-flakie sandwich. This one was quite tricky to photograph, and I kind of wish I had omitted the OPI glitter from this look but … you live and learn right!?

If you are wearing blue today don’t forget to Tweet your manicure under hashtag #MondayNailBlues.

If you are feeling the REAL Monday blues, allow me to share this silly YouTube video that my brother showed me a while back! It is so ‘odd’ and yet makes me laugh each and every time… not to mention I hum this tune through the day (and so might you, so beware ;) ).

Have you tried a glitter/flakie sandwich? Any tips you’d like to pass on to me, a novice?

THANK YOU FOR READING!

Oh I also own this essence color3. But still need to try it out. Your sandwich looks great!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Nailart-Addict,
Thank you!!! The base of this polish really was the gem (despite the flashy flakies). I actually like Bregje’s manicure better (check out the link in the post) where she mattified this duo. Lovely effect that way!

  • Carolina Garcia

  • Lillibit NAW

I´ve never tried a sandwich manicure. I think it may be quite difficult to remove… But it looks so cool!
Thanks for the video. Here we have a strange hot hot Monday and it´s being difficult to concentrate for working.
    Love, Lillibit.

I’m glad you like this look! There was a lot going on in this sandwich and maybe that is why I had a hard time capturing all of its personality!?

      Hi Deborah,
Thank you! I’m glad you like my first layering/sandwich experiment

  • http://twitter.com/NusaPavlic Nuša

Haha, the video is the cutest!

I adore how glitter sandwiches look when done, but oh my, they are a pain in the neck to remove. How do you deal with ultra glittery polishes? Otherwise I love this mani, I’m a huge sucker for blues, especially dark, deep blues AND glitters so this is just perfect to me!

Also, your hubby is the sweetest! I think everyone now wants a Peter at home ;)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Nusa,
I was hoping that some people would get a good giggle from the silly video ;)
Okay, for glitter manicures I use the foil method… sounds super time consuming and tough but IT WORDS 100% and much quicker than scrubbing.
Take small bits of cotton balls (just enough to cover your nail). Put your nail polish remover on them … enough to leave them wet (not soaking) and place it directly on your nail. Take a small square of tinfoil (aluminum foil) and wrap your finger tight. I do one hand at a time so that I look like an aluminum alien finger creature (my kids think this is hilarious). With your fingers tightly wrapped keep them like that for 3 minutes. Pressing down on your nail remove each tinfoil finger… PRESTO… all gone! No staining on your cuticles, not a single glitter bit remaining! HONESTLY!
Awwww… you are so sweet about your Peter comment. :D I had a tough childhood (I guess one could say) and he rewards me each and every day. I truly feel blessed and wish I could give everyone a clone of Peter ;) honestly ;)

  • http://twitter.com/SwatchAndLearn Mary

Very cool! The effect is almost like galaxy nails. Oh, I could stare at your nails all day, Marta…and drift off into space. *Content sigh*

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Mary,
Yes… the large OPI glitter gave it the galaxy feel… to be honest, next time I will omit that step… I will go for a more subtle sandwich. :D Waving from earth ;)

  • Anya_WackyLaki

I’m late catching up with my blog reading, but it is great to hear that you had a wonderful mother’s day. And you first layering/sandwich mani was a definite success :)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Anya_WackyLaki,
Thank you! It is so sweet of you to include me in your reads :D That means a lot.
Yes, mother’s day was really nice and reading your comment makes me remember it fondly again :D
Thank you… I shall play with this layering soon again :D

  • http://polishedindulgence.blogspot.com Carmela

I’m guessing Peter takes this to heart: “a happy wife equals a happy life”.  ;) He’s such a sweetheart for making sure you enjoy a well-deserved break during Mothers’ Day. :)

But *swoon* this blue sandwich is giving me palpitations! I really have to try more of these layering experiments!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Carmela,
He actually says that in partial humour when I am forcing an idea/event on him … he grunts “happy wife is a happy life” ;) lol
These dual essence shades are sooo neat! :D
