Born Pretty Store SMALL Loose Glitter Review

Author: marta  //  Category: BornPretty Store

I have been privileged, over the last little while,  to do a few product reviews for the Born Pretty Store.  I’ve enjoyed each one, and many of the products I have used a number of times since the reviews, BUT today’s product is my favorite -by far-!!! :D

These small loose glitter tubs (not to be confused with the larger glitter that I reviewed HERE) are sold separately and each tub retails for $2.38 (with FREE international shipping, plus my code “MARTAK31″ will get you an additional 10% off your entire purchase at checkout).

You can get the Gold holographic glitter HERE and the Silver holographic glitter HERE.

PRODUCT INFO:

Color: Warm yellow gold OR silver (both have a holographic finish)

Tub size: 3.3cm Height: 3cm (each)

Weight: 16g (each)

* * * * *

These loose glitters can add sparkle and interest to ANY manicure (without the raised surface of rhinestones).  You can add glitter to stamped manicures OR create loose glitter patterns/formations.  I used to “fish for glitter” (stick a dotting tool into a glitter polish and remove a piece of glitter at a time).  This loose glitter is so much faster, and the holographic sparkle in these is AWESOME!!!!!

I have prepared three different looks to show you today :D Let’s start with the GOLD holographic glitter ;)

* * * * *

These are small enough to not be too bulky, and yet they have enough of a surface to create blingtastic interest to any manicure!

I have arranged these in a pyramid/triangle format… but you could create any shape/design you would like :D

* * * * *

A QUICK HOW TO:

* paint your base color and allow it to dry

* apply a topcoat to your entire nail OR dot it onto the spots where you wish to place your glitter (with a toothpick or dotting tool).  I find it easiest to work one nail at a time, so that the topcoat is still wet/tacky, which is the perfect surface for the gemstones to adhere to

* with the glitter tub secured tightly, shake it once or twice and then gently open the cap; you will find that when you open the cap, sparse loose glitter will be stuck to the lid… the lid is the ideal place to pick-up the glitter from

(there really is a LIFETIME of glitter in here! ;) )

* dip your dotting tool into clear polish (to make the tip sticky) and dip it into the lid fishing for one glitter at a time (this actually goes soo quickly… I thought it would be a lengthy and tedious task, but it is not).

* when all of your glitter is placed on your nail, cover your whole nail with topcoat

* * * * *

The next two manicures are done using the SILVER holographic glitter:

Using this glitter in lines (like striping tape) is a neat way to cover up any ‘oops’ spots of a hand painted line ;)

This is also  a really great way to color block without having to use tape… or it can be a sparkly alternative to striping tape.

I did want to show you a manicure comparing this smaller glitter to the larger glitter set I reviewed a while back:

As you can see, this smaller glitter is not only more delicate, but it stays flatter/smoother against the surface of the nail (it is virtually undetectable to the touch).  The larger glitter has a greater surface and therefore reflects more light, but it is thicker and coarser to the touch.

I am telling you, I LOVE this glitter to BITS!!!! I already have another manicure using these queued up to show you within the next week or so.  I just can’t get enough.

Just to recap ;) , these GOLD holographic and SILVER holographic glitters are available on the Born Pretty Store website and are sold separately.  Each tub retails for $2.38 (FREE international shipping & don’t forget my code: MARTAK31 for an additional 10% off your entire purchase at checkout).

You can get the GOLD glitter HERE and the SILVER glitter HERE.

Have you played with loose glitter? Are you as hooked as I am?

Is there a manicure (from the three featured today), that you liked the most?

THANK YOU FOR READING!

Beautiful, I like all of them. :-)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Julianna Katalin Dornyei,
These loose glitters are so versatile… I am glad you like all three looks (I have more coming soon) ;)

  • http://nailartaddictions.blogspot.com/ Nailart-Addict

I like ‘m a lot! I do have some lose glitters, but actually never play very often with them. Shame on me. ;-) I can luckly buy lots of nailart-stuff at a local store owned by some Chinese people. I bought my glitters there to.

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Nailart-Addict,
I was hesitant to use these because I thought it would take a LONG time to place them down.. but they are actually so easy to use and take only a few moments for the manicure :D I love these! Hope you pull out yours and play soon ;)

  • NailsbyCarol

What a coincidence! Just last night I did a manicure with an accent nail using hexie glitters! I love the nude/gold mani you did!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi NailsbyCarol,
Isn’t playing with glitter SO much fun!!!! :D
The first look was my favourite also… soft and blingy :D

  • Lillibit NAW

You´ve made really beautiful manicures with these glitters. I bought a couple of tubs but I haven´t tried them yet. Now that I have seen them on your nails, I want to try them!! :-)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Lillibit NAW,
They are soo fun to play with. If you are nervous at first, you can use them to accent a stamped manicure (as centers of flowers etc)… just to get a feel for placing them… but have fun with them, they are SO fun :D

HOW do you manage to post so frequently, sometimes even multiple manicures in one post?! I know that you like to “enjoy you mani” for several day, so how do you keep up? I’m impressed. I’m leaving for vacation tomorrow and I couldn’t even make a decent scheduled post (I did two, but only one contains a manicure)!

These glitters look so lovely, they’d be perfect for my little nubbins. ^_^ Love all the looks, especially the last one, so gorgeous! And don’t post too much this week, so I won’t have hours of catching up to do! :D

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Nusa,
I do like to “ENJOY” my manicures and I continue to do so… I have recently accepted a number of products for review (which is exciting and fun… who doesn’t like to try new – and free of charge- products) but that also means I have to fit them inbetween my manicures. So I will confess that I didn’t wear any of these for longer than an hour :( I LOVED the first look and the second one (and I will do something like it to wear soon – and post on it)… but all of these looks were created for the purpose of the review.
I don’t do this so often because I don’t like removing pretty manicures ;)

I hope you have fun on vacation! Next time, I would be able to do a guest post for you if you were interested ;) Just let me know (I know, I am pushy ;) ).
      ENJOY your vacation!!!! :D *hugs*

  • GosiaB

Oh Marta… You know, if a company wants to sell their product they just need to come to you!!! I can’t believe this myself but I am getting these two!! I haven’t looked at their website yet but i would love to pick up other colors too!!
And your glitter designs… Aaah to die for!! You know I’m not a over the top girl and these are perfect!!! In fact, if you’d like to make some extra money you could maybe design something for me??? I’m for real, plz let me know!!!
    LOVE these!!!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Gosia,
Awww, shucks :D As you know, blogging is a way of “putting yourself and your ‘talent’ out there” and being open to both positive and negative feedback. It is soo rewarding to hear from you and know that some people like what I came up with :D Thank you!
This is by far my favorite Born Pretty store product (I think it is both versatile and just soft enough to be wearable anytime/anyday) ;)
They have diamond shaped ones also… I am eyeing those ;)

I’m intrigued… what would you like me to design for you? :D

      • GosiaB

I LOVE the first and second manis… I’m looking for ideas that would “spice up” my one-color manis but wouldn’t be over-the-top… full nail stamping is unfortunately too much for work =(( accent nail only would be great! (like your green Essie Mojito). And since I don’t have one creative bone in my body I’m sitting here on dozens of stamping plates and some glitter, striping tape, rhinestones, and have no clue what to do with all this!!! I’m an anti-talent, blah… So let me know if we could work something out??? =)))

        • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

          Hi Gosia,
I’m glad you like this review!
I know that sometimes looking at all the nail art options and tools can get really overwhelming. Personally, I find that the more I try the less effective my manicure turns out :(
I totally understand when you say that an ‘accent nail’ look is quicker and can sometimes even be more effective. You know… you could scout out manicures that you like, and apply ‘the look’ to one accent nail (ring finger) and then pick a complimenting, lighter/darker, or contrasting shade to paint all the other nails in. I have been wanting to play around with a nailwheel… I might do that, and email you a photo of all the looks on the nailwheel… maybe on of them will strike you as pretty enough to use as an accent nail with another shade on all the other nails ;) deal?

  • Maria Zaytseva

I wonder if these glitters are good for frankening) born pretty store has so wide selection of them!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Maria Zaytseva,
I wish I could answer that but I don’t do much frankening myself… one thing I can say is that these do not loose their color/holoness when topped with a topcoat :D so they shouldn’t ‘bleed’ into clear polish. They are also the size that you would find in OPI glitter so they are quite a pretty size… The BornPretty Store sure does carry a LOT of glitters (big, small, and even some super fine glitter dust) ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/morgane.rauscherborne Morgane Rauscher-Borne

Those glitters are awesome !! :D
I love your first and third manis ! Especially the last one. :) There is a kind of effect as when we take a photo but it is not neat and there is something sparkling… Do you see what I mean ? ^^
Do you know you’re a kind of Evil for me, Marta ????! lol Yoou always show so awesome things ! So I want it after I see it on your blog…! Tell you’re the Evil queen ! Because yes ! I know it ! I see what you really are. *dramatic face*
Ahah ! Have a good night Evil queen ! (Ps : don’t worry, I’ll not tell anything of this little secret… ;) )

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Morgane Rauscher-Borne,
I’m so glad you like these looks.
I TOTALLY understand what you mean by the half out-of-focus-blurry effect that the third manicure had. I can totally see how you got that feeling from it. It was neat because in person it was a glossy but flat shade with these metallic sparkles of light :D
I’ve never been called a “kind of Evil” but I will wear the title proudly if it means that I am a nail polish enabler ;)
I, the Evil queen, would totally encourage you to buy these glitters (at least in one shade)… because they truly are my favourite product so far! Honestly! So fun and easy to use… so effectively pretty!

      • http://www.facebook.com/morgane.rauscherborne Morgane Rauscher-Borne

nooooooo ! Stop tempting meeeee !! ^^ Non I will first play a little with my rhinestones and littles beads and fimo… And then I will think about those glitters. lol I have to be REASSONABLE. I try to… ^^

        • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

          Hi Morgane Rauscher-Borne,
LOL (laughs the Evil Queen) ;)
I will play devils advocate and just add that these glitters are a good way to start ‘accessorizing a manicure’ because they are small AND flat against the nail (in case the fimo and rhinestones are too heavy at first) ;)

          • http://www.facebook.com/morgane.rauscherborne Morgane Rauscher-Borne

            No I will resist !

  • coraline humbert

I love those glitters!!! I think the first manicure is my fav: it looks so smart on you! but the combo of the 2nd mani with the 2 purple is… Perfect:)
    http://cocosnailss.blogspot.fr

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi coraline humbert,
Thank you! I really liked how soft and yet glitzy the first look was also :D
      Glad you liked these

  • http://twitter.com/Likeacandyshop El

Love love love your manicures <3

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi El,
      AWH SHUCKS… thanks :D

  • http://twitter.com/KLenz85 Karen Lenz

Great reviews Martas! I always love seeing what you create with products like these. I espically love the first one (which is not usually my style… but hey! you like what you like :) ) But they are all very awesome! I also saw in another comment below that you were eying the diamond shaped glitter, well that got me husseling over to BP and scoping things out my-self. There are so many things I want to pick up thanks to you lol!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Karen Lenz,
I am so glad you like this. I can totally see you using these loose glitters! Honestly, they are such an easy way to spruce up a ‘plain’ manicure ;) And yes, the diamond bronze/rose colored ones from the BP Store are calling my name ;)
Have you ordered with them before? I have never been disappointed… but the shipping to London does take 3-4 weeks so be prepared for that ;)

  • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

    Hi Jkeentch,
    Thank you for asking :D
For the purple manicure I used two Cult Nails shades from http://www.cultnails.com
The darker one is “Spontaneous” and the lighter one is “My Kind of Cool Aid”.

  • CrystalRose Stewart

Thanks for the tutorial! I’m always so amazed by people who place glitter on their nails!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi CrystalRose Stewart,
Awww, thank you! I’m glad this was helpful.
I will just say (I know I mentioned it in the post too) that this was far quicker than I expected… honestly this was super fast to place them AND the fact that they are really flat against the nail surface makes them soooo use friendly and not as cumbersome as rhinestones ;)

  • ABrushWithBeauty

Love your site and your first manicure! What OPI polish is that you are using as a base? I’m glad to hear that you have had good experiences with Born Pretty. I had heard so many positive things about them, so I just placed my first order but so far it has not been a good experience.

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi ABrushWithBeaty,
Awh, thank you so much for such a lovely compliment.
The first look I created using two coats of OPI “Passion” (which is a jelly/transparent dusty pink/coral)… it is quite a nice shade for french manicures or glitter tips also ;)
I know that some packages take up to 4 weeks to arrive all the way to Canada. At one point in time, my package did NOT arrive. I emailed the company and a replacement package was sent within a day. I have had really positive experiences with their customer service. Hope things resolve in your case too :(
