Playing with the Saran Wrap… again!

Author: marta  //  Category: China Glaze, Cult Nails, Konad, OPI

Over the weekend I posted my very first saran wrap manicure, and did a short little photo-tutorial of how I use the saran wrap method.

I have kind of become insatiable when it comes to this method to be honest (kind of like Anastasia when it comes to Mr. Grey… sorry, I had to insert a little Fifty Shades humour here).

This manicure was achieved by using the saran wrap tutorial.  I started out by painting my nails two coats of, none other than, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (no surprise there, as this is my all time favourite off-white).  I then painted two shades of polish, randomly, onto a plastic sandwich bag.  The two shades I used were China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy and Cult Nails Manipulative.  I pressed a rolled up ball of saran wrap down onto those two shades and then dabbed it down firmly (only once) onto the nail.

The saran wrap method looked like a splatter manicure (without all of the messy cleanup AND without a raised surface).  I wanted to add a little extra to this look, so I stamped with Konad m-70 and China Glaze Passion.

The addition of the golden stamped splatter adds a little bit of extra dimension to this look AND from further away, it looks like my nails have a perly finish… which in this case, I quite like :D

Yup… another manicure that I am so pleased with.  I know I shouldn’t be tooting my own horn, but this look makes “my inner goddess get up from her chaise lounge, stretch her limbs, and give a yelp of excitement”… if you don’t know what I’m talking about, perhaps you too should cave and start reading Fifty Shades (I’m hooked) ;) lol

Have you tried any nail-art techniques that you really liked recently?

Have you tried the splatter manicure? The saran wrap manicure?

THANK YOU FOR READING!

I KNEW that gold stripes weren’t seran wrap’s fault! ;) I’ve tried splatter, but I have a feeling that once I try this, I’ll like this one better (I don’t like raised surface). I like this one better than your previous one, it’s so fresh and fun and just soo pleasant to looks at (not that the previous one wasn’t, but I always pick brights over “calms” :D )

Hi Nusa, ;) The gold stripes were stamps BUT let me tell you, you honestly could create a similar effect with a second layer of saran wrap dipped in gold polish.. honestly ;)
This dried SUPER smooth! I was worried about textured surface also, but nope, very smooth.
This was just the right amount of bright… I had to take it off earlier today :( now I’m sad ;)

      Hi emlangille,
      Thank you!

I’ve been a little behind in blog reading and commenting but I had to drop a line when I saw this. Absolutely gorgeous! I just saw you did a tutorial, too, so I’m looking it up when I try my hand at it in a bit. :D The gold definitely adds a sense of whimsy and makes me crave Konad M70. There you go tempting me again! Nooo…! :P

Btw, I just finished Fifty Shades of Grey and just started Fifty Shades Darker. It’s not my cup of tea, but my curiosity gets the better of me so I think I’ll finish the series if only to try to understand why it’s so popular. I honestly find that subconscious/inner goddess part distracting. I keep envisioning Lizzie Mcguire scenarios with those pop up cartoon selves she has!

      Hi Carmela,
I have to admit that through the summer I too am falling behind on keeping up with blogs so there are NEVER any hard feelings on my part.
I hope you do try this method and you could easily create this effect with another round of saran wrap rather than the stamp, though I will say… this stamp is one of my favourites! I purchase all of my KONAD items from http://www.wowsocool.com (free shipping with 25$ plus) ;)

Love LOVE LOVE the touch of gold with that stamping design Marta! Is that particular image also included in a Bundle Monster or Mash set, or just with Konad?

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Deborah,
Thank you. I originally wanted to stamp that design in black and opted for gold last minute! ;) I’m so glad I went with gold.
I have all of the BM sets and the MASH and this particular splatter design is unique to Konad. I purchase my Konad from http://www.wowsocool.com I love this plate to bits (I have used it at least twice before on the blog also ;) )

  • Stacy Plowman-Pennock

**Wowzers** This is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I would LOVE to see this mattified too!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Stacy Plowman-Pennock
Thank you! I wish the manicure had lasted (I painted my nails on Friday… and removed it today) or I would have photographed it matte… you’re right, it would have been a pretty one! ;)

  • http://sneakerette.blogspot.com The Sneakerette

    WOW you totally owned the technique with this mani! you seriously never cease to amaze me, marta! other saran wrap manis ain’t got nothin on yours (;

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi The Sneakerette,
I was smiling thanks to your comment all day!
Thank you, I’m glad you like this so much. LOL.
I did this little tutorial because I have a phobia of ‘messing’ with wet polish on my nails (with three kids, I want my polish to dry quick and smooth… not to be dabbed at with saran wrap)… so I came up with the side-dab-on-a-baggie idea to help overcome my aversion ;)

      • Maria Zaytseva

Oh, it may be difficult for me!) I may manage saran wrap, but I’m still bad at stamping

  • http://www.nailsandnoms.com Rie

    O___O

This is flippin beautiful Marta! I have to try this technique soon! ^_^

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Hi Rie,
I’ll keep my eye out. There are a number of ways to play with Saran Wrap… this method works quite nicely because you can combine a number of shades together ;)
