Floral in the Chill

Author: marta  //  Category: BornPretty Store, Cult Nails, Dollar Nail Art, OPI

Hello Lovely Ladies,

I would say that the last few days have been the coldest we have had this winter here in London Ontario… with the windchill, it has felt like -25 degrees Celsius!!!!

For those of you living in lovely warm places filled with palm trees and sunshine, -25 degrees is best described as so cold that you feel your bone marrow shiver.  So cold that a few minutes outside makes your cheeks so pink and frozen that moving your mouth is a challenging task.  Brrrr.

To help take my mind off of the chill, I thought that I could try something floral and fun, springlike even, to remind me that warm weather will come… not soon enough, but it will ;)

I have been getting a few requests to show some purple manicures.  My favourite color is purple- it has a calming effect on me- and yet for some reason I do not wear it on my nails very often.  But when I do, I loooooove pairing the deep Cult Nails Vicious with OPI Steady as She Rose.

* * *

Pinky: three thin coats of OPI Mad As A Hatter

Ring Finger: Cult Nails Vicious with silver square studs from dollarnailart.com (I really like the textured square studs! Aren’t they fun?!?)

Thumb: Cult Nails Vicious

Rest: OPI Steady as She Rose with BornPrettyStore water decals.  I added a few Vicious dots to the decals and dotted the centers of the flowers with MAAH.

I personally really like this skittles look; I kind of like the soft floral right next to the trendy studs :D.

I entered this manicure into Sincerely Stephanie’s Skittles Contest :D (she is accepting entries until February 16, 2013- check it out!).

It’s REALLY hot here today, 35 degrees C ! So we can swop weather, been like this for almost two weeks now and getting a little unbearable. I LOVE your skittelette manis ! And those studs are so AWESOME ! Love them !

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

Thank you, glad you like the look.
If your weather and my weather got together ;) (that rhymes, lol)… then maybe we would have the perfect temperature ;)

Gorgeous skittlette. I must get those textured studs they look amazing and really add a little something extra. It has been as low as minus 12 here in Norfolk which is bad enough so I cannot imagine anything worse than minus 25! Roll on spring :) xx

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

      Yes! Rolll on Spring!!!

I almost passed on the textured studds- I thought, well I have the silver flat ones- how many studds does a girl need;)
Well, I’m glad I got them because they do have a different feel to them.

    Love the water decals!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

They are a very easy way to add visual interest to manicures for sure.

Great skittlette :-) I like the combination of the colours + everything else.
Weather here in northern Germany (Hannover) is really winter, -10 degrees and snow, all white and bright. And I like this better than what we had beginning of January, +6-+10 degrees, and all grey, rainy and foggy, no sun for more than two weeks… Still I look forward to Spring.

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

Thank you for grounding me in this weather thing. In December I was complaining that it was too warm, grey, and rainy… now I’m complaining about the chill… You are right, the snow is a positive pretty part of winter :D
I lived in Berlin for 5 years, I have such fond memories of Germany :D

I’m glad you like this look.

  • Stacy Plowman-Pennock

Oh I just LOVE your skittles!! This one is so serene and peaceful looking to me, it reminds me of a meditation garden.

I’m in Michigan and it has been COLD here too (-10 F) and we are starting to get some real snowfall finally, I’m SO ready for spring!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

Awh, thank you for sharing what you ‘see’ in this look. A meditation garden is quite a beautiful image :D

I don’t mind the snow, the white fluffy blanket, but man the chill makes me crave spring too ;)

Purple is my fav color & it looks great on your nails. I like the textured studs, very neat. The water decals are perfect for those colors. I am doing more skittles now more than ever since reading your blog – love em.

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

I’m so glad to hear that you have embraced the ‘skittles/skittlette’ look.
Thank you, I am happy to have played a little part in that.

The textured studs are really really pretty- I’m glad I threw them into the cart ;)

Absolutelybloody stunning best way I can describe this mani, loving the purple and I too love the colour but rarely wear it on my nails! Must order some studs not tried with them yet! And although the temperatures here in the Uk are not as low as yours but for us they are abnormally low finger numbingly low ;)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

The fingers are always the first things to go numb right ?
We have to pick olivia up from school every afternoon and stand shivering outside of her classroom :D brrrr.

      Studs make everything fun :)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

Thank you! And quite an easy way to spruce up a look

Love the manicure, and I almost forgot about her skittles contest, I have to get crackin’! And you think -25C makes it hard to move your mouth. My hometown, Wabush Labrador hit -66C last night… I am so glad I’m in Newfoundland right now :P

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

OH… MY… GOSH… You will NOT hear another brrr complaint from me. -66C seems unbearable in comparison to our cold… wow!!!!
      That is iNSANE!

      Thanks for sharing :D

Buffalo, where I live, is so close to London, that we get the same weather as you. The other day, I walked into the office and felt sure that I really NEED legwarmers! I am a purple lover too and mad about this manicure, like a little taste of spring. Even before I read it, I was thinking, “Oh, I love those textured studs.” I planned to enter Sincerely Stephanie’s skittles contest too, but have been mulling over what I wanted to do for a week. Still not sure what I’ll do, but it is always fun to do a themed challenge.

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

I haven’t thought of legwarmers *palm to forehead* now I will not step food outside without :D

I’m glad you like this look. There is still a little time to enter Stephanie’s contest- I hope you come up with something lovely :D
      Thank you for your comment

Halifax is equally as cold, plus it’s damp here so it goes right through you, it’s awful! haha. I feel like a wuss considering I grew up in Sudbury where we frequently see -35 or so. Eesh.

I love the mix of delicate flower decals with the fierceness of the studs. Such an awesome manicure!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

I’m glad you like this look. BRRRRRR, -35… poor Sudbury folk. brrrr

  • MariJo Nails

This is absolutely beautiful!!! Funky, yet delicate ;0)

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

Thank you :D Studs always add some edge to even the most delicate designs right? :D

  • Jamie Willett

This is lovely! I’m in Chicago, and it’s -10 (F) here today…I hate the cold!! Stay warm up there!

    • http://www.chitchatnails.com/ Marta

    -25° !!! REALLY ??! :o That is so coooooold !

Here in Dijon, it was snowing few days ago but with only -3°..! And I was feeling so cold ! lol I just can’t imagine how I would feel with -25°… ^^ Brrrr… But today we had 1°. :)

Anyway… I love your mani !! :D The water decals you used are so pretty !! And you’re right, when I look at your mani, I think of Spring and sun and warm temperature. I also think of summer because it comes after spring ! ^^

Thumb up for your lovely mani ! :)

    B E A U T I F U L ! ! !
What a great manicure Marta, I love all the elements you used.

  • Christine Steiner

Simply put another stunning Marta-esque mani :-)!!! I am living in Switzerland but in an area with milder winters, i.e. not a lot of snow and temperatures seldom below -6 degrees Celcius. However this January proved to be exceptionally dull with slughish snow and plenty of ice :-o

  • http://twitter.com/KLenz85 Karen Lenz

Nice mani Marta!! This def a classic (amazing) marta-style manicure, and I love everythig about it!
umm yes! I dare say we’ve had some chilly weather of late!! LOL
