Shimmer on Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year to you all! 😀

As I mentioned/promised in yesterday’s post, today is a special request post created for Julie, who asked for a Chinese New Year inspired manicure.  While I do not celebrate this day myself, I was up for this sweet challenge – I hope I do it justice.

I have read up a little about it on Wikipedia 😉 and this year is the Year of the Snake, so I tried to work it into my manicure 😀

I knew I wanted to play with red and black, and I also wanted to add some gold (as I thought it was fitting)… but glitter doesn’t hurt either 😉 My glitter choice was Shimmer Sophie which is a mostly soft pink glitter polish with gold elements as well as iridescent (gold/green) glitter.

(two coats over China Glaze With Love)

Some of you keep reminding me of my personal lightly-followed rule of “glitter on the pinky”… well, I am sticking to that rule this time and I used the glitter elements to further inspire my Chinese New Year look 😉

For the pointer and middle finger I used two coats of China Glaze With Love.  I stamped using Konad plate s6 (I was tempted to stamp in gold, but last minute chose to use the bolder black polish).  For the ring finger I stamped using BM-215 and applied both gold (China Glaze Passion) and black polish onto the plate to create the duo-colored stamped image of the SNAKE 😉

I hope you like this manicure Julie 😀

Happy Chinese New Year to you all!

So, how did I do?

If you celebrate the Chinese New Year, and would like to share something about it with me I would love to hear in the comment section below.

Oh Marta, I LOVE you & your manicures!! I have been experimenting with multi colored stamping so this post just makes me HAPPY!!

    • Awh, thank you 😀 Glad you like this post so much. Good on you for doing this technique- I am always hesitant to try it (another manicure thing that makes me nervous for unexplained reasons) 🙂 lol

  • Lovely manicure… love shimmer polishes 🙂

    • Thank YOU ! 😀 Glad you like it

  • GORGEOUS !! I L-O-V-E the design, and especially the snake stamping with two colours!

    • Thank you! I can’t remember the last time I used two shades in a stamp- honestly- It is a fun way to play around with stamping.

  • GORGEOUS! Really perfect ♥.

  • This is pretty!! Definitely a more Chinese mani than mine and I celebrate Chinese New Year haha. Okay, I’ll share something for fun 🙂 Chinese New Year as a kid(which I still am) is more fun because we get red packets with money and get to eat all the food without worrying about weight hehe. The married adults are the ones who have to do the giving!

    • Thank you soo much for sharing more about the Chinese New Year with me. I really enjoy learning about new customs and traditions. 😉 “kids” do get the better deal don’t they 😉

Thank you very much for your sweet comment

  • I have been following your “glitter on the pinky rule” a lot lately and I just love the look. This manicure is no exception… I thought about doing a chinese new year manicure as well but the day arrived before I realized and I had other things in mind. This is awesome! 🙂

    • YOU don’t have to worry about this yet 😉 but I feel like I might be too old for the full on glitter- and yet I looove me some sparkly- keeping it on the pinky really seems to give the best of both worlds 😉 lol

It is quite challenging to properly fit in all of the posts (and on time etc)… I was glad this was a request- otherwise I think I may have accidentally passed on it also 😀

Great mani, so unique and “just right”!!

Whoa I am stunned, what beautiful delicacy!!! Your ring and middle finger remind me of a small box I got as a kid from Hongkong. It is exactly this shade of red and the pattern looks nearly identical. I am sticking also to One glitter nail per hand if the glitter is as blingy as Julie. I found the glitters of Hare Polish more “grown-up” so to say i.e. less sparkly and wear them even as full mani. And then there are always the glitter tips and bases 🙂

  • What can I say? I loveeee it

especially the stamping in 2 colours wow I can’t even master 1 colour for some reason my stampings are always unsuccessful. I have to try like 20 times to get 1 stamp right! I might end up using a toothpick to dot the “snake” 🙂

    • Awh, I’m sooo glad you like it.
Stamping takes time to get just right- 😀 I’m sure it is lovely when you do it 😀

You could try a tutorial such as this one I found on YouTube as well

How perfect for the holiday!!! 🙂

    • Thank you 😀 I’m glad you like it- I had to work some sparkle into the celebrations 😉
